Selamat Hari Raya

To everyone celebrating Hari Raya, Selamat Hari Raya. Be safe on the roads and enjoy the traffic jams and those who are enjoying the holidays please stay home so I can go out roaming around town without going through the jam :D hahahah

Photohunt Smelly

With the holiday's approaching I didn't have much time to go around taking pictures and only had this in my collection. Presenting to you the king of fruits the durian which will make do for this weeks theme Smelly. I tried searching for words that describe how durian smells and this post in wikipedia just made me laugh. It's really not that bad actually and I have many foreigner friends that loves the taste of the durian that is once you overcome the fear of the smell :D

... its odor is best described as pig-shit, turpentine and onions, garnished with a gym sock. It can be smelled from yards away. Despite its great local popularity, the raw fruit is forbidden from some establishments such as hotels, subways and airports, including public transportation in Southeast Asia.

To many the smell of the durian is something that leaves
them with a migraine but to many the smell is just heavenly
and can be smelt from miles away

The smell is just so horrible that many public places especially
hotel rooms have banned bringing in durian into their premises

I Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry

Being a fan of The King of Queens and not forgetting Adam Sandler humour, this was one movie that I didn't want to miss. Half naked firemen and hot women lawyer what more would you want from a movie hahahaha

The movie is basically about Chuck Levine (Adam Sandler) and Larry Valentine (Kevin James) who are veteran firefighters who are also close friends. Larry is having issues dealing with his wife's death and has not changed his primary beneficiary from his wife to his kids within the stipulated time and the only way to get it done is for him to get married.

This is where things get interesting as Chuck and Larry pretend to be in domestic partnership. As funny as the movie was but it was being funny at the expense of an already marginalised group. There's a lot more to the movie than meets the eye and as funny as it is, it has some reality in it which might be faced by certain people on certain aspects portrayed in the movie.

Overall it was entertaining and as hard as I tried not to laugh halfway through the movie tears were practically rolling down my cheeks :D

What colour are you ah ?

Living in a multi racial society one has been thought since young that we are lucky to be living in a country that has such diversity in culture and believes. I couldn't help but overhear some of my colleagues talking the other day and it got my attention. They were complaining about how cliques is so obvious nowdays and having a clique is nothing new but this cliques are usually of a single color. It is obvious in universities, colleges and even secondary school to a certain extent.

Some of this people are of the majority in this country and yet they were commenting about how when they were young and living in kampungs everyone mixed with each other and colour was never a matter compared to today where walking around in shopping centers one can not help but notice it.

Being raised in a mixed parentage with both my parents being the minority in the country I always thought that we the minority should stick together and become much stronger voice in the country. That is until recent incidents has thought me that there are still some people living in the dark ages thinking that their colour is the ultimate colour and any other colour is just not good enough.

To generalise a person based on his colour is something I have heard of from other people but never have I had it happen to me. To generalise me as a typical person based on my colour is something not pleasent at all. There are tonnes of things happening in the country and to generalise someone based on what you see or hear from the tv and radio and paper based on other people's doing of the same colour is definitely not fair.

There's some that likes to gamble and to certain extent even beg, borrow or steal just to satisfy their gambling habits then there are some that apparently like to get drunk and beat their wives and not forgetting some that apparently like to go around committing incest. So if you're the same colour as someone who has been generalised to be a certain type does that mean that you are the same as well ? It's the most absurd and ridiculous thing I have ever heard.

Sometimes I wonder what kind of place do we live in that not only do we have to fight for our rights but at the same time because of the action certain group of people we are labelled to be the same kind just because of our skin colour. In all my years growing up and living this is the first time that I've faced a colour issue in my life. I've heard of adding some colour to your life but never have I thought that I had to be a certain colour to live happily and peacefully.

Photohunt Curvy

This time around I finally manage to post my photohunt on a Saturday. This week's theme is Curvy

First thing that came to my mind was The Curve shopping center available
here locally but I'm sure many photohunters wouldn't know where or what it is :D

But then one day as I was driving to work negotiating the numerous
twist and turns I thought of a curvy road.

As I was going through my collection of pictures I found this. A shot taken
from a plane on my trip back from one of my overseas trip. There's definitely
a lot of curvy road and rivers that can be seen from the top

Desktop freeview

Got tagged pulak. So apparently I'm suppose to do a screen capture of my desktop and post it online. Wanted to do it last night but got lazy so here I am doing it now. This is the desktop in my office. It is very "organised" and follows my theory of "organised chaos" hahahahaha. It has short cuts to most of my frequent programs and files that I use. Window key + m is my favourite feature and I use it most often hahahaha

I'm suppose to tag 5 people so here goes
Daniel, Yue, Bulat, LeMistress, Eelyn

[TAG STARTS HERE]

My Desktop Free View Instruction:

A. Upon receiving this tag, immediately perform a screen capture of your desktop. It is best that no icons be deleted before the screen capture so as to add to the element of fun.
You can do a screen capture by:

[1] Going to your desktop and pressing the Print Scrn key (located on the right side of the F12 key).

[2] Open a graphics program (like Picture Manager, Paint, or Photoshop) and do a Paste (CTRL + V).

[3] If you wish, you can “edit” the image, before saving it.

B. Post the picture in your blog. You can also give a short explanation on the look of your desktop just below it if you want. You can explain why you preferred such look or why is it full of icons. Things like that.

C. Tag five of your friends and ask them to give you a Free View of their desktop as well.

D. Add your name to this list of Free Viewers with a link pointing directly to your Desktop Free View post to promote it to succeeding participants.

List of those who participated in the tag and place your link below:

  • iRonnie
  • skippyheart
  • theserrie
  • domlawrenceosb
  • sasha-says
  • maiylah's snippets
  • MY Memoirs
  • Aniquenik

  • Sugar coating

Was thinking about this recently and after my unproductive teleconference with a MNC that shall be left unnamed I finally found the time to actually sit and put my thoughts down. It's funny how we are thought to speak our mind and yet when it comes to the practical part of it more often that not we tend to sugar coat most of the words that come out of our mouth.

Among close friends information tends to get sugar coated and sometimes even important information is left out. Sometimes we do it unknowingly but most of the time we do it because we are afraid of hurting the other party with the truth. The saying truth hurts is so true and by disguising the truth sometimes seems to make things easier to swallow especially if it's bad news. At the same time sometimes too much sugar coating ends up as a white lie, all this is done with the idea of protecting the other person in mind. I know and understand that bad news is difficult to accept but by hiding the truth or topping with with loads of sugar sometimes the truth gets so distorted that the original message never gets across. If we can't be honest with the people we care about then who else can we be honest with ?

Sugar coating in some form is a way of censorship I guess. I mean just take a look at our local newspaper and you'll know what I mean. Most news either do not make it to the paper and even if they do they are so heavily doctored and distorted and topped with kilos of sugar that you might die of diabetes the next day.

Just take for example of the rumors of a petrol price hike. So by informing us that there is no petrol price hike this year seem to have pleased a majority of the people but what difference does it make if next year the petrol price goes up by 20cent or even 30 cent to cover up for this year as well ? What then ? By then no amount of sugar coating will help because the truth of the matter is petrol prices are going up and by subsidising (sugarcoating) us from the ever increasing petrol price does it do us any good ? We might save a bit now but sooner or later we have to face the music and when that time comes I can't imagine what might happen.

Maybe we are just afraid of confrontation and try our very best to weasel our way out of it either by sugar coating or by topping it up with a white lie or by just ignoring it until it's too much to handle. Where am I going with this I have no idea. Maybe like everything else in life there needs to be moderation and sugar coating only helps to a certain extent and sooner or later the truth needs to be voiced out be it by choice or forced into a situation. Sometimes the truth does hurt in the short term but the effects in the long term by living a life full of sugar is not very pleasant either.

Have you been doing any sugar coating lately ?!?!? hahahahah I know I have :D

    Photohunt Original

Once again I am late as usual hahahaha. Work in office is crazy and by the time I get back I'm too exhausted to even think about any pictures for this weeks theme. Last night I finally made time to go through my pictures and selected a few for this weeks theme ORIGINAL. It was rather difficult at first but this is what came to mind when I thought about the word original.

    Original software

    The original jeans

    The original scrabble

    Knocked Up

Usually when I watch a movie I will update in my blog and I haven't been doing it for so long because firstly I haven't been watching movies for quite some time and secondly I've been rather busy with assignments and exams and thirdly because I was just freaking lazy hahahahah

So last week ended up watching Knocked Up starring Seth Rogen as Ben Stone and Katherine Heigl as Alison Scott. In a nutshell this show is about what happens after one night of drunken fun and 8 weeks later Alison Scott realises that she's pregnant and Ben Stone is the father.

This movie is very funny and those who have been in similar situations I think can really relate to this movie. The obvious decision that had to be made was obviously if the baby should be kept or if Alison should get an abortion and once that issue was sorted out it was time for Ben and Allison to figure out if they want to raise the baby together.

It's funny seeing how the mismatched couple get to know each other and realise that in the end the responsibility they have as a parent. I definitely enjoyed the show and had a ball laughing my head off. I feel it was as real as it can get though seeing how it was a movie a happy ending was portrayed instead of what actually happens in reality. Still a good watch though

    What the fish

Is it better to be a big fish in a small pond or a big fish in a big pond ? Being in a smaller pond means that you are almost on top of the food chain compared to in a big pond where you have to fight for your survival and risk being eaten alive !??!!?

From my previous post here work has gotten even more confusing. The future direction of the company is still unclear and with my team being split up it leaves even more room for doubt and uncertainties. Even if I were to be transfered doesn't mean everything is hunky dory. Being in my current position in the current organisation means that I was a big fish in a small pond and my opinion and say mattered and I made a difference in my actions and was given the freedom to handle my work and task as seen fit and as long as deadlines were met my boss was cool with it.

Now by being transfered back to the "mothership" it has left me rather worried. First and foremost the team will be reduced in size by half and that does not only means more work but also means that it leaves little or no time for improvement or innovation. Also the amount of freedom will definitely be reduced significantly as the "eagles" and "hawks" will be watching and hovering above to catch even the slightest misconduct. Though it does mean a better job security but that also is a big question mark as the future of the project I'm working on at the moment is rather questionable. Seeing how the "new organisation" is a non profit one and every decision and purchase will be under scrutiny by the "big boys" and everything has to be justified. Heck even upgrading from the hard drive for the new pc which costs an extra few dollars for an extra 10-20GB was met with huge resistance.

On a brighter note the new office seems to have attracted a lot of attention especially from people in the mothership and some have even express desire to come and sit in our new office. How funny would that be working in a more "corporate" environment where backstabbing and lying and cheating are a common thing. Gone is the spirit of "togetherness" that made me stay in this current organisation for such a long time. 2008 indeed promises to be a very interesting year.

How I wish I could just stand up and walk away and never look back but due to circumstances it's something that I can not do at the moment nor do I see myself doing something so drastic anytime soon. It's sad what a slave I have become. Here's hoping I get my priorities right before I become a zombie to the corporation and before I have lost my spirit and will along with numerous other things that happens when you turn into a corporate slave.

    It's been a while

I just realised that I haven't been blogging for some time. Well I have but not as often as I used to. By penning in this case typing out my frustrations and anger it somehow made things that much easier to go through but along the way with time being divided between work and studies and the much needed weekend breaks my blog has somewhat been neglected.

It's not that I have nothing to say but on the contrary I have loads of things going on my mind and issues that never seem to be ending but looking back at my previous entries is almost always about the same issues which is work being too much to handle or studies killing me slowly. It's always about me being upset or angry about something and recently things have somewhat changed though I'm still a little angry and upset but it's as though it didn't bother me as much as it did before. Maybe I have learn to be more calm and handle things in a more less hostile manner or I just couldn't be bothered about the same stuff anymore as it doesn't seem to be helping by keeping hovering and thinking about the same matter over and over again. Just aggravates and worsen the situations.

With the long break coming and with a lot of free time on my hand I think I need to relook at rethink the situations I'm in and get my priorities right. It's time to see what I've been doing and what I want to do after all the end of the year is almost near it's time to set things in motion for next year. One thing for sure I'm getting rather sick and tired of living a "stagnant" kind of lifestyle of just working and slaving and paying of debts. There's definitely more to life than being a modern day slave and I need to find my passion and drive once again if I'm to survive yet another year in this working place.

    Photohunt - Plastic

This weeks photohunt theme is Plastic. I'm really late this time as I've been busy with my assignment the whole of last week and finding pictures for this theme was rather difficult for me but finally I manage to get some and even though it's already Tuesday better late than never right :)

I always wondered why people cover their
    mango fruits with plastic bags.

Some plastic models taken at a friends house.
Don't ask me details I have no idea hahahah

The ultimate evil plastic !!!! If only I can destroy all of them !!!

    FREEDOM !!!!

Finally after much struggling I'm free !!! Just finished handing in my assignment last week and what a relief. A huge burden has been lifted off my shoulders and now I have two months break until my classes start again.

That's two months of freedom to do whatever I want !!! muahahahahah I was thinking of taking up another class, yes yes call me insane but I'm so used to the hectic pace of life and the sleepless night that now I have so much time on my hand I have no idea what to do with it. I definitely spent the weekend catching up on some much needed sleep. Apart from that cleaned up my room a bit after so much procrastination. Was thinking maybe Korean or Japanese or even Mandarin ?? What about cooking or baking ?!?!?! hahahahahaha

Well we'll see how it goes for now I'm just enjoying my new found freedom :D

    Photohunt - Music

This weeks photohunt theme is MUSIC. I'm a bit late on this one as I was busy studying for my exams on Saturday and finally now I have the time to go through my pictures for something suitable.

Recently I attended a headphiles gathering. As much as I like
my music this guys were very serious about it. Some even
spend up to USD 400-500 for a pair of headphones !!!

No doubt to some hearing the roar of the F1
    engine is pure music

For me listening to the wind chimes
on a cool relaxing day while sipping a cup
of tea is my kind of music :)

    STOP THE CONTEST !!!

Just saw this today and it made my blood boil. It's one thing to catch homeless dogs and putting them into a shelter where they might be lucky enough to find a home but to hold a contest to capture these poor unlucky animals is just ridiculous. I find it totally an inappropriate way to solve an issue. For sure a stray dog might be dangerous but to just go out on a witch hunt for them is inhuman.

It's as though we are magically teleported back in time. I can just imagine everyone dress in black carrying pitch forks and lanterns prowling the streets at night looking for this poor animals. Haven't they suffered enough ?!?!?!

    To: Selayang Council

We, the undersigned, strongly protest the current dog hunting competition instigated by the Selayang Council(http://www.mps.gov.my/hanjing/dog.html)as reported in Sin Chew(4th Sept, 2007). We strongly disagree with such a campaign to catch stray dogs for prize money which can only lead to more animal abuse and animal deaths. Such a barbaric campaign is totally irresponsible and ineffective in curbing and resolving the issue of stray animals in the city. We demand that the campaign be stopped and an alternative campaign be put in place using the so called prize money. We would also like to appeal to the city councils across the country, animal lovers and all compassionate citizens of this good country to support our protest against such a disgusting show of inhumanity.

    Sincerely,

    The Undersigned

A petition is available here. Please sign it so show your displeasure towards the idea of animal cruelty !!!!

    Traffic jams

    In KL there's lotsa jam
    Ee i ee i o
In in the jam there's lotsa cars
    Ee i ee i o
    With a car car here
    And a car car there
    Here car, there car
    Everywhere car car
    In KL there's lotsa jam
    Ee i ee i o

Sometimes I sit and wonder what is the cause of all the jam in the first place. Is it because there is really a problem with our roads where it cannot cater for the amount of ever increasing cars ? I know for sure sometimes it's caused by inconsiderate drivers who tend to cut into the lane/queue at the very last minute.

At other times it's because of an accident. I don't know what's with drivers who like to slow down and have a look at the accident site. Are you part of the CSI team where with one glance you can figure out what actually happened ? More often than not the accident could be on the opposite side of the road and yet it's this side of the road that is jam. That really gets on my nerves.

Not forgetting the rain, OMG it's as though we suddenly forget how to drive when it rains and go crawling on the road at ridiculously slow speeds. Well if you're afraid of the rain or the fact that it might melt your car then don't bloody hell hog the fast lane. Keep the left where you belong god damn it !!! Also for your information the reason it's called an emergency light is because it's only used for emergencies when your car is broken down at the side of the road and not meant to be automatically switch on every time it rains !!!

The only reason I choose to work in this god forsaken place is because of the highways and non existent traffic jams and I get really moody and cranky when it actually starts crawling. I'm used to driving at speeds in excess of 80km/h on average except for the stop at the toll booths and yet today I find myself crawling at a paltry 10-20km/h !! arrghhhhhh early morning blood boiling already. I know traffic jam is part of driving in KL and I should get used to it but god damnit when a normal trip that takes 20-30mins ends up taking 60-90 mins I get freaking irritated.

8 questions you should never ask me

Got tagged by Trinity and since I have some free time this morning I decided to do the tag before I get swamped with work. This is a rather interesting tag that leaves a lot of room to think. So the main aim of the tag is 8 questions that you should not ask me

    1. You still working in the same place ah ?
    - What's wrong with working in the same place for so long ?

    2. Wah you still not married ah ?
    - @#$@#%@#$!@##!#!%&^*^

    3. Eat already ah ?
    - Just came back from lunch what you think ?

    4. Eh you still awake at this hour ah ?
    - No I'm actually sleeping this is an automated reply please leave a message after the beep

    5. Eh you tired and sleepy ah ?
    - No la I just yawning for fun

    Unidentified number calling my handphone
    6. Hello who this ?
    - Who are you looking for ? You call me and ask me who I am ?!?!?

    7. What do you think about this ?
    - Answer honestly and then get ridiculed for thinking about it that way

    8. Wahhhh you still driving this car ah ?
    - !@#$@#%#$^%&

    Malaysia International Fireworks Competition (Japan)

Here's some pictures from the Japan fireworks last week. Wanted to go for it but since our last experience during the Team Italy fireworks boo and myself decided to give it a miss and thank god we did that too because I heard people were stuck in the jam for 2-3 hours and some even more. That's just madness to watch a 20-30 mins fireworks show.

On the other hand everyone who went seem to enjoy the show except the the smoke which seems to be a lot for Team Japan's fireworks. Here's some pictures I got from my friend :)

    Happy 50th Birthday Malaysia

A bit late on my posting as I was enjoying my break so here's to you Malaysia for being independent for 50 years now

    Photohunt - Dirty

This weeks photohunt theme is DIRTY and so many thoughts came to my mind like a rubbish dump or a toilet or a wet market but after much thinking I'm finally settling on this pictures.

Boo caught this picture in a restaurant.
Is this Remy the famous little chef all the way from Paris ?

Is this dirty enough ? Reminds me of the scene from
Prison Break where an image was seen on the wall
    from the water spot

Dirty does not need to be seen by the naked eye

    Malaysia International Fireworks Competition (Italy)

Plans were made to arrive there earlier but somehow yet again we were late but this time around we chose a different spot which put us much closer to the fireworks display. The crowd was just amazing especially all those that chose to park by the road. I have no qualms with them parking by the road after all the view from the place they stopped at was good but don't go double or triple park la from a 3 lane highway it was reduced to a 1 lane crawl !!! Typical I tell you typical. Is it so hard to find a park further down and walk a bit ?!?!?!

I was very happy with the spot I pick this time and me and my boo had a lovely time watching the fireworks. The spot was awesome with just the right amount of people and a slight gentle breeze cooling the night and the fireworks lighting up the sky with countless colors. I very much enjoyed the display by the team Italy and their fireworks was just awesome. At time I was so mesmerised that I forgot to take pictures :) hahaha

They even had star shape and heart shape patterns for the fireworks. Once the show was done it was time to face the jam and I can tell you it was just madness. It took me almost 2 hours to reach home. Not only that the most irritating thing is there are people who somehow parked in the middle of the road and are taking their own sweet time to remove their car. Some of them are not even at the car yet leaving their car stranded right in the middle of the lane.

Now I'm thinking twice if I should go for the Japan one, boo said to forget about it hahahahah maybe I should :)

    Add a little twist

It's been ages since I ate potato chips and even if I do it's usually Pringles or something similiar. Did you know that now Twisties are out to compete in the potato chip market as well with their new product called Chipster. I have no idea how new is the product or how long it's been in the market but it's definitely new to me and I love trying new stuff plus I'm a sucker for attractive packaging and Twisties definitely got it right with this one.

As I was eating my chips I was thinking how corporations like Twisties have to keep innovating their products to come up with something new and exiting to an already overcrowded market of snack food and apart from that they have to figure out ways on how to attract and keep their customer to their existing line of snacks. My god my brain is working on overtime nowadays that I can't even sit down and enjoy some potato chips hahahah

It comes in a few flavours but I have only tried the Hot & Spicy and Sour Cream and Onions both of which I absolutely enjoyed to the last bite. It's thin and crispy and not too oily. The only thing I was rather disappointed with was how big the packaging was and how little chips we get. Are we paying for the air inside the bag also ah ?!?!

At least now I have an alternative to my Pringles which I don't seem to enjoy anymore ever since they only sell the "Asean version" and yah Chipsters claim to be using imported potatoes which might explain why it tastes so good ?!?!? Wonder what flavour should I try next hahahah
